Nominations for the Eat Game Awards are now open, as we search to find the champions of British game meat and reward their success, innovation, and passion.
The Awards, which were set up five years ago, reflect the ever-growing use of wild game and its benefits and feature eight different categories including best small and large game retailer, restaurant/pub, game butcher and influencer.
Last year’s awards were a resounding success with more than 250 different businesses and individuals nominated.
Annette Woolcock, Head of Wild Food at BASC, said: “We are determined to broaden the awareness of the health and environmental benefits that game meat brings and encourage its wider consumption across the UK.
“The Eat Game Awards are a tremendous way of recognising local businesses, new talent and those who have spent years, or even decades, spreading the word about wild game meat through their work.
“As we have seen previously, there are so many individuals and businesses doing such wonderful things to champion the use of British wild game and this is your chance to give them the recognition they deserve by nominating them in the Eat Game Awards 2023.”
Hanks’ Meat & Game in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, has won the best Game Butcher of the Year category at the Eat Game Awards twice.
Owner Tim Hanks said: “I was delighted and so very grateful to all who voted for me to win the title of Game Butcher of the Year for the second year running. It’s important that we hold competitions and events that promote responsibility from the moment the venison or game are harvested. I have really enjoyed demonstrating exactly this at national food shows and events and I am really looking forward to next year’s final – it’s so amazing to have so many like-minded people in one place. I would encourage people to nominate their game heroes and help them get the recognition they deserve.”
Nominations close on 20 November. The top 10 nominees in each of the categories will then go through to the voting stage. The public will be able to vote from 1 December 2022 until 10 January 2023.
