Pennant Valley Game was formed by Izzy Hosking out of her passion and love for shooting and hunting. Originally situated on Llechweddygarth Estate in the picturesque Mid Wales countryside, Pennant Valley Game is now part of Wild Welsh Meat Ltd, which also encompasses Izzy’s Butchers, a traditional village Butchers shop in the nearby village of Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant.
Working under the “Hunters Exemption” of the Wild Game Guide allowed Izzy to process Game which she had played an active role in the hunting of. Izzy worked alongside her husband and Headkeeper of Llechweddygarth, Danny Hosking, in the running of the shoot. This gave her best background knowledge into the husbandry and welfare of the game she was selling. 6 years after running this artisan business, the opportunity arose to acquire the local Butchers shop.. Having a broad interest in butchery and meat, combined with the passion for Game and quality food, it only seemed like a natural decision to make.
So in March 2020 Izzy became the proprietor of Izzy’s Butchers.
The shop prides itself on supplying quality meat, prepared to the highest standard. Working with local farmers, ensures that where possible meat is locally sourced. Local Pork is often sourced from only 5 miles away, as indeed the majority of Lamb and Mutton is sourced from Izzy’s husbands own flock of Sheep. All beef is Welsh Beef, all poultry is British. Game will still be dominating feature when in season.
We are very fortunate to have a good working relationship in North Wales that has a healthy population of Wild Fallow Deer. Selective culling is carried out on the estate to maintain the quality and condition of the animals. By keeping to a strict cull plan, this ensures the population of the herd is kept in very healthy condition, which obviously means quality venison.
Fallow Deer are regarding to be one of the finest species of deer, in terms of Venison. A very healthy meat, low in fat and cholesterol, but equally as delicious as beef, or even better some would say.
We have a selection of cuts available as well as Sausages, Burgers, Diced and Minced.
